Happy new year every one, I hope the holiday’s were good you.
Today I stand before you 5 foot 10 and 20 pounds overweight, This weight was progressively put on over the season and it’s kind of weird because I thought I was eating healthy but the amount of hiking I was doing vs my calorie intake was not what I thought it was. Last years eye opening season taught me the power of preparation and dedication to real hunting. I say real hunting, because I hunt public land for elk, I don’t frown upon or think badly of people who hunt on ranches, hey if you have the money and you are investing it into a ranch who is progressing and making strides to make sure that the elk population is plentiful then by all means have at it. I unfortunately do not have that kind of money to spend on a ranch elk hunt, I come from modest 3rd generation military family. The land that I hunt early season does not have a lot of pressure on it, which is good because it gives me the opportunity to scout ahead of time and get eyes on the animals so I can find them to pick out what I would like to hunt. Now granted when season does start these animals are migratory and will not be in the same spot opening day.
With that being said, I have to have the ability to be able to traverse multiple miles to find and catch them. Up mountainous terrain in the harshest conditions my body needs to be in good to peak physical condition. At the beginning of the season I was winded climbing to the top of the mountain and I did not like that feeling because of sweat and when I sweat when I hike, I stink and when I stink the animals can smell me. As a hunter that spot and stocks, if I am smelled that means I’m busted and the likelihood of me harvesting an animal dwindles rapidly.
You may have noticed my youtube channel has decreased in videos and that’s because I removed them. I felt that the videos as I was putting out was not educational enough for the public. I felt I am better than what I was last year. One of my goals for the channel was to provide hunting education in some form or another whether it be archery, firearms, or getting to know your surroundings. I did not achieve that last year so this year I’m going to focus more on specific detailed hunting techniques. I hope that the new videos that I will put out comes across properly. If there something that I may have missed during the video I would appreciate constructive criticism because I’m always trying to make myself and the videos I produce better. That way I can educate more efficiently.
I have decided to stay with Hoyt this season and shoot the 2015 carbon Spyder turbo, it is a completely different Bow than last year. Black Eagle arrows is a supporter, and by supporter that does not mean I’m getting free product, it means that I am getting product at a less than retail price and that’s all I can say per contract. I truly love their products because they are the best. Any serious archer wants to have a perfect shot and you need perfect products as a base. This season I’ll be shooting the X-Impact arrow it is there micro diameter shaft. I am currently using a 350 spine and a. 001 tolerance straightness. I think I’m going to switch to a 300 spine because this carbon Spyder turbo really needs a stiffer spine arrow. The speed at which I am currently sending this x impact down the lane is ridiculous. Bow sight is a Trijicon Accupin the same one I used last season. I really enjoy this product for hunting. it does lack accuracy for competition archery. but for hunting it is deadly accurate. Would I change to another manufacture? honestly I have shot Black Gold ascent, IQ, Spot Hogg, Trophy Ridge, and all just don’t compare to the build quality of Trijicon, and the Pin. This Single pin is really what sells this product. The Transmission drive needs a little work, and to be honest if this Trijicon head would fit on a Black gold ascent base, I would probability shoot that instead.
Titanium and why you should invest in yourself and lighten up everything in your gear. I love Titanium… not only will it provide a weight savings, but also durability and strength. Most of the screws can be bought though amazon.com, some are unique and could be purchased as a kit though Firenock.com This kit will replace almost every screw, the only ones not replaced that would have to be bought through amazon are the screws on your arrow rest, and quiver. My current setup weights exactly 6.4 lbs with arrows. A typical bow with steel screws weights in at 9.lbs or more….
